Handmade in Marche

Handmade in Marche

Beyond the delicious food, wine and splendid landscapes, Marche’s tapestry is also interwoven with a tradition of craftsmanship rooting in the Middle Age. Back then guilds used to craft everything from leather-made goods to intricate woodwork and, as a result of the region’s isolation for much of its history, artisans thrived impervious to external clout. Ever since skills and techniques have been handed over, spawning in some cases successful brands. Nowadays this heritage is still upheld, making the “Handmade in Marche” a hallmark of mastery.

Fashion design

Tucked away in the gentle hills of Marche’s inland, Filottrano is the breeding ground in fashion design. Since the 1950s this picturesque town has steadily untied itself from its rural heritage, becoming one of the major players in the field indeed. Made in Filottrano means man’s high-end tailoring: a hub where some of the biggest brands lift out their creations, and in-house companies strive for excellence on daily basis.

Lardini

Based in Filottrano, Lardini began in the 1970s, when an 18 year old Luigi Lardini created his first menswear collection. His brother Andrea and his sister Lorena, who were 21 and 19 at the time, respectively, saw potential in the collection and began to work alongside Luigi, while their father provided the financial backing needed to get the business started. In 1978, the three siblings opened their own tailoring workshop. After the first few years, significant names in the fashion business started to notice and the brand has since produced men’s tailoring for esteemed houses such as Dolce and Gabbana, Burberry, Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo and more. With the business expanding amidst a rapidly growing clientele, the three siblings took on different roles to better handle the separate areas of the company.
